Feeling Zih Love

Evenings and mornings continue nice and cool. We were enjoying a nice peaceful evening on the pier yesterday until a panga driver decided he had to share his "music" with everyone. Where's a water balloon slingshot when you need one?

On our way home we saw some local fishermen bring in several large tunas including one that looked like it weighed close to 300 kg. Somebody's got sore arms today!

Instead of simply repairing and providing maintenance to the Paseo del Pescador along the waterfront from downtown to La Madera, millions of pesos are being spent to do EXACTLY what all of us who use it every day explicitly do not want: losing more beach under tons of cement pavement. It should NOT be allowed if we have to physically dig it up ourselves. Feel free to express your opinions to anyone you see overseeing the workers carrying out the job as well as here, if you like.

My beloved saint of a wife has been very busy making up packages of school supplies for needy local children, of which we have no shortage. Thank you to everyone who makes this possible with your donations.

As much as many newcomers and other misguided folks believe Zihuatanejo is no longer a fishing village and that it needs to "modernize" including its fishing fleet, it is indeed still a fishing village and this is the way we like things. The only thing that would be nice is if the federal agencies paid to monitor the fish catches and the vedas would actually do their jobs so that we don't have too many fishermen overfishing, using techniques that should be banned, depleting the species and breaking the ecological chain. Here comes another boat speeding to shore with its overnight catch.
