"No Zihua and Mexico in general is a scary and dangerous place. You will need a bodyguard and then have to sleep with one eye open. Stay in Kansas or Texas where you can assume everyone is armed and dangerous."

Recognize that quote, Juan? It's yours, from a year ago. So which is it? Are safety concerns justified or to be belittled? Should us tourists discuss taxi fares, restaurant menus or the latest atrocities?

Meanwhile, our northern neighbor continues making record sales of weapons around the world, arming the most violent people on earth, including their own citizens, and caving in to the interests of the arms industry when those same citizens clamor for rethinking their laws and imposing better regulations because their children keep getting massacred in schools, church goers keep getting massacred in churches, shoppers keep getting massacred in malls, music lovers keep getting massacred at music gatherings, and on and on. Never mind their own history of genocide and colonization.

Each day that news of the rest of the world reaches us, I'm thankful to be right here in Zihuatanejo!
