Pueblo Magico

Zihua will always be a "pueblo magico" to us, but I'm a tad skeptical of this Pueblo Magico program. This is hardly an exclusive club, if Zihua would be the 113th member.
We have visited about a dozen Pueblo Magicos, and the most common thread of those dozen would be that they are old towns, with lots of preserved historic buildings. The three Cs are a good example: Copala, Cosala and Comala. Patzcuaro? Certainly. San Cristobal de Las Casas? Definitely.
Zihua has very few old buildings: the present Coconuts location, and the home next door come to mind, and they're not that old at all. As shown in other posts, Zihua had only about 1300 people as recently as 1964/65, and my understanding is that, not very long before that, it was basically nothing much more than the spot where fishermen pulled up their boats - the main population centre then being in the Agua de Correa area.
A Pueblo Magico designation, then, must involve something more than just old buildings. If attaining that status would bring more tourists, and much-needed federal and/or state funds for infrastructure improvements, go for it.
