Zih Long Time

The past two weeks seemed like a long time for a lot of us who live and work here. The daily crowds, the incredible amounts of garbage, the lack of water, the traffic, the lack of downtown parking spaces, the noise, the time change, the smell of urine everywhere... I know I'm glad it's over and the kids are back in school. It was extremely unfair to the poor city workers who had to work ten times as hard as usual for the same miserable pay to clean up everyone else's mess with the insufficient tools they have. Those folks are our unsung heroes, and frankly I think a sanitation worker should be one of the city's better paying jobs.

Speaking of unsung heroes, here are a couple of Zihuatanejo's. This is our dear friend Victor Olascoaga and his father, Mundo. Mundo was the farero or lighthouse operator from the time the Faro de Zihuatanejo was first built.


And as a reminder of the urgency now that hurricane season starts in a little over a month, here is yet ANOTHER photo of a hole in the wall of La Boquita canal. Story of a disaster foretold...
