Ride Sharing in Zihuatanejo?

For me and most of my friends using Uber or Lyft is more about the convenience and security that they offer over taxi service in many cities. I have used Uber-Lyft all over the U.S., including my former home city of Seattle, and places around the world including Mexico. In Seattle it was frustrating to hail taxis and the cars and drivers were frequently sub-standard. Lodging complaints to the taxi companies about poor drivers, poor service or even dirty vehicles seem to go into a black hole. Furthermore I hated dealing with payments at the end of the ride. Often the taxi drivers would give me a hassle if I needed to pay with credit/debit or wouldn't have appropriate change for cash.

With the ride hailing service, not only could I hail a taxi from my phone, I could show exactly where my location was, see who was going to pick me up, watch their progress towards my location, call them on the phone directly if needed and my payment was processed ahead of time. I don't have to wait at the end of the trip to fumble around with payment or look for change, I just get out and go. I can then rate the taxi driver at the end of the trip and their overall ratings matter. The taxi driver can also rate me as a rider. If I forget something in the car I know exactly who to call to get it back. After the first year the rates were not that much different from regular taxis but the level of services and security I felt was so much better. This goes doubly so for the taxis in Mexico city. I had a couple of bad experiences with the taxis in Mexico city and ever since I have only used the ride hailing services there. My experience with them in big cities like Mexico city and Guadalajara have been superb.

All of that being said, I don't much miss those services here in Zihuatanejo because I find the public transportation and taxis in Zihuatanejo to be quite good and rarely do I have problems getting or finding taxis. They provide much better service here in Zihuatanejo than the taxis in many of the U.S. cities I visited ever did.

Sorry if that is more than you bargained for in a response but I had so many bad experiences with taxis in my previous job that I feel passionate about the superior options that ride hailing services provided in many locations. :-)
