hi the wife and i used to visit from 2001-2010
havent since, we've been all over Mexico since and while we liked what we've seen, ix-zih stands out despite
its many warts, problems and security concerns.

we'd like to revisit, i now have 3 kids - 11,9,7 who are active athletic

we like nicer, more upscale hotels/resorts having a kids club is nice but not mandatory

some questions

1. is it safe to come wkids?
2. is late june or early july too warm - will restaurants be closed and the weather too warm??
3. what hotels/resorts do you recommend - we are open to ixt and zih

thank you

You'll be here right about the time our schools start letting out and summer vacation begins, so it will seem slow at first except on weekends and then the crowds will increase.

I don't think we have any hotels I'd consider "upscale resorts", though we certainly have some nice hotels and luxury lodgings. That's more of a description for what you'd find in Cancún or Los Cabos. Zihuatanejo has always been a family oriented place. There are high-rise hotels in Ixtapa that sort of sound like what you might be looking for. Most have activities directors and include daily activities and programs for younger kids. But the ocean in Ixtapa is challenging for folks not accustomed to open ocean. Zihuatanejo's bay offers more sheltered water for easier swimming. But as far as I'm aware, Zihuatanejo's beachfront hotels have no structured activities programs, though of course tour operators can be hired to show you and your family around the area.

You're coming to the tropics so I certainly hope it's good and hot. Depending on if we get any rains it may be quite pleasant with some brief cooling late afternoon showers or it may be humid and smoky like it usually is until we start getting our seasonal rains. Sometimes they start early, sometimes they start late.

Personally I think La Ropa Beach would be a great place for you and your family, but then again I'm biased.

A kid runs to catch the ice cream man with his wheelbarrow on La Ropa Beach.
