Electricity costs

That is correct.

Electric bills are interesting here. If you stay under 400 kwh per month, each one costs about a peso. If you go over 400 kwh, they go up to about 4p each, all the way back to the first one. So, your bill could in theory go from about 400p in a month to 1600p in a month. Then, you are stuck at that level (4p per kwh) for a few billing periods. A billing period is 2 months.

You may think that this won't affect you because you don't use a lot of electricity.

If you move into an apartment/condo/house behind someone who has used a lot of juice and is at the 4p rate, that is what you will be paying even if you don't use much electricity. You will be caught in the "few billing periods" of the high rate until you prove yourself to be an under 400 kwh per month for a while.

Yes, this is a gross simplification of how it works, but it gives you the picture. Electricity can either be inexpensive or OMG!!

Most of us have learned to watch our meter and learn what to do and what not to do.
