Troncones or Barra de Potosi/Playa Blanca?

We’re looking at rentals in both of these and wondered what the regulars feel about the differences between the two. We are four retirees, all familiar with Mexico but not with the beach towns of Guerrero. We like to walk the beach, swim in the ocean and have a number of restaurants to try within walking distance. We like Bucerias and Puerto Morelos.

Being open ocean, swimming may be difficult at much of Playa Blanca except near the southern end of the beach where the village of Barra de Potosí is located, which is also where several excellent lodgings and numerous restaurants are, most of the latter which close around sunset. If you can get past the breakers and know to look out for riptides then swimming at the rest of Playa Blanca and Playa Larga isn't a problem. Some lodgings offer paddle boards that are good for getting past the breakers.

Troncones is also open ocean and presents a similar problem. There are a few areas good for swimming, but again, you need to watch out for the currents. Playa Manzanillo, where several excellent lodgings are located, is probably the best place for swimming where you can just jump in the water and paddle around. Most other places you will have to deal with the waves and currents of an open ocean.

I list recommended lodgings for both places in my respective Zihuatanejo and Troncones Directories.

Warm saludos!
