My Zih Runneth Over

Well, now the construction on the new municipal pier is rumored to begin "in 45 days and a smidgen." Allegedly the "first stage" of the work will cost 45 million pesos and take 10 months. Of course, in a land where there apparently are no penalties for cost overruns on public projects that could mean anything.

And repair work on the huge hole in the canal wall near the museum is rumored to begin tomorrow. That is, unless it rains between now and then (the canal has been mostly bone dry for months except during the very few rains and the one or two incidents of high waves).

The pier was indeed a lively place last evening. Full of families strolling and enjoying their last few days of vacation. Gonna miss having a place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet and the tropical breeze. With the new bars along the waterfront now there are even fewer places to escape the daily cacophony that has become our daily bread in downtown Zihuatanejo.
