Blissfully Zih

Day after day I feel privileged to be here, like I somehow cheated and got to enjoy my prize in paradise before most everyone else slaving away towards retirement. Convinced by far I am the luckiest gringo in Mexico. Pobres los demás. ¿Y qué?

My friend Cristina Krebs of the Sociedad Protectora de Animales de Zihuatanejo was on my friend Sergio's radio talk show, Zona Libre, this morning. She made an excellent case for the sterilization of cats, citing the number of cats that can reproduce from just two cats in three years. I oddly found myself wondering why we talk so calmly about sterilizing pets but get our noses bent out of shape when we talk about forced sterilization of people "for our own good". What silly logic, eh?

Anyway, Mexico just legalized the equivalent of Social Security benefits for gay and transgender spouses. ¡Viva México!

And of course you know our Congreso is about to pass legislation legalizing cannabis for recreational use nationwide thanks to the prodding and rulings by our Corte Suprema.

Oh, and all you estadounidenses can tell your xenophobic neighbors that Mexico is issuing temporary work visas to most of the members of the migrant caravans, so they can stop flipping out over any perceived "invasion" or "border crashing". Like former First Lady Michelle says, "when they go, low we go high."

Our weather has been simply PERFECT lately. Bright sunny days, not too hot, and nights perfect for sleeping with an optional bedsheet. Great for snuggling!

Does it get any better than this? I don't see how! B-)

Had to get on the beach early to catch this brief moment of morning magic, but I think it was worth it.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought this looked really interesting with the extremely bright sunshine and vivid colors from this shady perspective early in the morning. That's the tropics for ya! Always a study in contrasts and colors.
