Zih Día de los Reyes Magos

Today is the day that magic happens for millions of children across Mexico. If you've been to the market in the past couple of days you've seen all the toy vendors. My favorites are the traditional toys. Unfortunately too many kids today want the noisy plastic crap from China. But it's THEIR day to get what they want, so grown ups need to be kind and to be tolerant. Last night when we took our grandson to pick something out it was a fantasy land of miracles and wonders, with beautiful wide-eyed children and their loving parents all in festive spirits crowding the sidewalks and greeting one another. Of course traffic was a mess, and it makes us appreciate all that much more being able to walk everywhere downtown we want to go.

The mayor was at the Cancha Municipal last night handing out toys and pieces of rosca. Lots of the children's cartoon and movie characters were present in the Caravana de los Reyes Magos. A delightful event that began near the Fibazi offices and ended at the zócalo. Thousands of families showed up with their children, and the event was a complete success.

And tomorrow it's BACK TO SCHOOL for millions of Mexican students as our Christmas vacation season comes to an end.

If you haven't already I strongly urge you to get your rosca de reyes from one of our local bakeries for enjoying this evening with your family and friends. We usually drink either atole or chocolate caliente with ours as is traditional. Whoever gets the baby Jesus in their piece of course becomes its padrino or madrina and has to invite family and friends to tamales and atole on Día de la Candelaria on February 2. A very Mexican tradition!

¡Felicidades y provecho!
