Fishermen are showing up, many with their own boats, and the pier is being readied for its last hurrah, the Torneo de Pez Vela. The following Monday its demolition is scheduled to begin.

Slowly but surely fires throughout the region are causing the air to become smokier each day. Sunrises and sunsets are mostly red and orange now, and the smell of smoke is easily detectable, especially at night. The winds have calmed down and the ocean is going through changes, with authorities issuing warnings for a mar de fondo event along our coast, meaning large waves and coastal erosion are possible. So heads up if you live on the beach or intend to go swimming.

A local newspaper referred to the parade as "insípido". Good adjective. There were practically no spectators.

While it's certainly good to see the Paseo del Pescador illuminated, lights in front of the ocean should be shielded from shining on the ocean so as not to disorient sea turtles and especially their hatchlings who will swim towards the light upon hatching thinking it is the horizon. Lights can also frighten off nesting turtles. Nevertheless, this is still a view my wife and I appreciate very much. We'll miss it while the pier is under construction and inaccessible.
