Sailiboat "Nines" is down

The sailboat "Nines" has been anchored in the south end of our bay for years and was derelict. In February, the anchor line finally broke and the boat attempted to beach itself just beyond Las Gaviotas. Two of the boats that tow toys kept it from going onto the rocks and towed it out and tied it to a float.

A week later, someone went on and took down the mast and secured it and all of the cables to the top of the boat.

Friday morning when we paddled by we could see that it was actively sinking. After watching for a while, we decided we weren't going to wait the couple of hours and paddled in.

Saturday morning it was obvious that someone had pumped it out and it was riding high in the water.

Sunday morning it was riding a lot lower.

Monday morning when we were out with the dogs it was going down. A friend sent us a photo of the bay mid day Monday, and it was gone.

Today, Tuesday we paddled by the float and could see the boat about 20 feet underwater and unfortunately there is an oil slick.

So much for the Nines. Does anyone know the story of the El Azteca, the large power boat that has been anchored in the same place for years? It obviously gets pumped out regularly too.
