From Sea to Shining Zih

Round trip Airfares to Florida from the northern states are $250-$350 and $600-$900 to Zihua, not to mention only a 2 day drive to Florida. Fortunately Zihua is a luxury we can afford, but that doesn't apply to many others.

I see it as a chicken and egg situation. High airfares, lower demand. Lower demand, less need for more flights resulting in less competition among airlines and that means the airlines can charge higher airfares, which in turn kills the demand. Not sure how you break the cycle.

The cycle is broken when one (or more) of the thousands of overpaid public servants (and tour operators) makes a deal with an airline guaranteeing that the airline will make at least a certain minimal profit per flight, or else the government entity (or tour operator) will pay the difference, then do some REAL PROMOTION saturating regional media with ads to see if they can’t fill those flights and get the ball rolling, a method I have confidence in. But unfortunately in this world there are too damn many too fortunate people for whom “doing their job” means little more than showing up for work and collecting a paycheck, and that ain’t worth spit in this increasingly competitive overpopulated world.
