It doesn't make any damn sense, but it's the way things are. Guerrero is bad enough with corruption and paternalism, but Zihuatanejo is about as far from our state government as it's possible to get and still be in the state. While we're nowhere near as bad off as the folks in La Montaña region, civilization is nevertheless just an illusion here, and the rule of law is just a sueño guajiro. Thank goodness so many of the local people are pretty damn wonderful.

While no program begun by one administration seems to carry over to the next, the problems they create do. Lots of good and decent people would like to see the area where the La Ropa crafts market is recovered and restored to its original use as a beach entrance. Maybe put some public bathrooms there. So there are interests that would like to see the vendors removed and not allowed back, and that may also play a part in the drama you saw unfolding this morning.
