Zih Escape

The summer heat has people moving very slowly or not at all. No throngs of tourists are in the streets even though it's a weekend and lots of folks are already starting their vacations. The buses arrive early and leave their passengers, their passengers tote their luggage and coolers through town to the pier area to await the water taxis, then they fill up Las Gatas, leave late in the day, and the process begins again the next morning. No shoppers. Not many hotel guests (at least in the downtown hotels), and not much economic benefit except to the Oxxo stores and the restaurants at Las Gatas.

Of course, one thing keeping folks off the streets are the soccer matches taking place. The Copa de Oro and the Copa América are happening simultaneously, so national teams are playing up and down the continent distracting lots of us. Today Mexico will hopefully clinch a spot in the semi-finals in its match with Costa Rica at 8:30 pm.

Gotta go. It's siesta time! My favorite custom!

Here's our friend Noyo contemplating the sunrise over Zihuatanejo Bay.
