Un Zih de Ensueño

Yesterday was a marvelous day for fans of futbol (and the IMSA race in Ontario wasn't too shabby either). At the Women´s World Cup Final from Lyon, France the USA women's futbol team thumbed their nose at their detractors (including their idiot president) and endeared themselves to the world, well, except perhaps for Holland who lost the final match. Then Brazil and Perú played an exciting and artful match in Río de Janeiro in the Copa América (though I don't think I saw one single gringo there, just a reminder they aren't the only Americans). Then of course was the amazing final match in the Copa de Oro played last evening in Chicago between the USA and México. You couldn't tell that the USA had the HOME advantage. The Mexicans easily outnumbered the estadounidenses in the stadium, and the Tricolor finally managed to score a victory goal rather late in the second half that their opponents couldn't match. A good day for sports fans on a hot Sunday in July.

As schools across Mexico shutter up for the summer vacation period, tourists are beginning to arrive at beach destinations like Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa. It's nice to see a lot of middle-class tourists out strolling about and dining at local restaurants in the evenings Need more of them!

Fishermen getting ready to head out for the evening.

Since most fishermen don't work Sunday evening, there was very little activity at the beachfront fishermen's market this Monday morning.
