Off To Zih Races

More heavy equipment was trucked in on special trucks last night down Juan N. Álvarez, and for some odd reason a couple of brand new pickups that had been brought in by tractor-trailer were trucked back out the same way, possibly to be repainted, refitted and given as a "gift" to someone as a kickback. :stirpot:

So now there are eight huge floating containers that will be lashed together and anchored so that the other heavy equipment can be driven on them to place and drive the pilings. Only twenty pilings are here, but there will be over a hundred eventually. I'm trying to imagine the next few months of constant pile driving day and night to set that many pilings so that the platform of the pier can be built on top of them. I wonder if we all will get used to the noise. I've lived near the noise of piledrivers before and I never got used to it then. Bugged the crap out of us, so I'm guessing that's what's in store for the next several months. Oh boy.

The more we investigate the more it seems there are no photographic records of the construction of the original pier. My wife is making sure that isn't the case this time around. She's taking photos daily and sending them to important people in high places so that this project doesn't get overlooked or forgotten.

We were happy to see the Guardia Nacional patrolling and watching over strategic parts of town. The gobernador was here coordinating security plans with the mayor and the military. This is what we've been waiting for.

Here's a view from last evening's waterfront sojourn. Maybe it'd make a nice screen saver for your cellphone.

Just another picture postcard perfect day in paradise!
