Zih Reason To Smile

While last week was a pretty rough one not just for us but for a lot of our neighboring families, unity and resilience are characteristics the people of the Costa Grande have long been known for. Natural and man-made tragedies and disasters over the centuries have forged these strong yet warm-hearted people into what they are.

Even after only a couple of days we notice the difference in town with the presence of the Guardia Nacional. These folks came here to work, not to fool around. We immediately noticed how they are watching problem areas and doing things our own police never did. They have the authority of 3 levels of government, which is a bit novel, yet it's what we need. They appear well trained, prepared and quite fit for the burdensome and dangerous tasks they've been entrusted with. They appear to be the answer to decades of prayers. Hopefully the good and decent citizens will confide in them and help them instead of mistrusting them or worse. We've come a long ways from the days of the murderous judiciales.

This hard-working señora also has a reason to smile thanks to the generosity of many of my readers. ¡Muchísimas gracias!

After several days of rough weather and seas, local fishermen are able to work again. Gotta take advantage of the good spells in between the storms at this time of the year.
