Septihambre is over and now we're into Octuhambre, two of the most difficult months of the year for most locals, at least the ones not on corporate or government salaries. But like every year we try to get through it by helping each other out as best we can. That's what a real community is all about, and that's the community I struggle to do my part to help, even if only in small ways.

Be sure to come to the Eco-Tianguis Zanka tomorrow early. Lupita is one of the participants in a sort of story-telling event where she will share her recollections of one of the popular shade trees that folks used to gather around in the zócalo near the house where she was born on the beach.

You can see the big amate tree to the right in this photo.

This was a joy to behold this morning. Simple unadulterated natural beauty- Our humble little tropical beach at sunrise. A light rain the night before left some neat impressions in the sand under the palm trees.

I couldn't resist this shot of the obelisk dedicated to Capitán Álvaro de Saavedra y Cerón. Captain of the first expedition to sail from the New World across the Pacific Ocean to Asia, leaving in 3 ships from Zihuatanejo on October 31, 1527.
