Getting around

Thanks for the information. I really don't mean to offend anyone and though I may not agree with Rob on the selective news that is on this board it's his board and I understand where he is coming from. That said, I've coming to Zihua for over 25 yeas and this year I plan on driving down so I personally would like to be informed on what is happening in Zihua and the surrounding area. I'm not really a facebook person, but I guess I could be. Should I just be checking in on mexiconewsdaily.com. Any info (advice) would be appreciated. Gracias.

Not really trying to be selective, but more trying to keep discussions relevant. Zihuatanejo has had bad people trying to make a living off the good and honest hard working people for decades, but it is NOT something locals are used to, and the details are onion layers upon onion layers whose surface was barely scratched in this conversation and about which no newspaper or foreign resident will ever report correctly. Personally I don't wish to feed into morbid curiosity. Vehicles were torched, but no lives were threatened. While it certainly looks like simple extorsion, nothing is simple here, and other things are going on in the state and the region which should be considered factors. Few things are what they appear to be here in Mexico, and especially here in Guerrero. But I would let you know if there were a public danger beyond the ordinary daily lawlessness.

All the local combis and microsuses aren't yet running, but it appears it has more to do with getting signatures on papers promising money and favors from the government than with anything else. The buses are running to Petatlán and Ixtapa. If you still have trouble finding a combi try making a friend and sharing a taxi, just don't tell the taxi driver you're sharing the ride and he or she can't say anything (taxis aren't permitted to offer colectivo service anymore). We got by for decades without all these combis, and there have been many work stoppages before for less nefarious reasons. We do what we can and we do what we have to do to get by.
