Trip Report 10/26/19 - 11/2/19

Flew Alaska out of LAX, left an hour or so late and when I got my bags one looked like it was dragged across the runway or got stuck in a conveyor belt. Not a big deal as most of the stuff inside was fine and we had a one way bag with donations for Lupita we just used to go home with. Immigration and customs were the best of any of our trips to Zihua.

Stayed for the 4th year in a row at the Azul Grand. Got a master suite on the 22nd floor with a king bed just like we wanted. Hotel may have been about 1/3 full at most. Breakfast is very good here, lunch good but room service better and dinner is just so so. We only had 1 dinner at the hotel this trip and it will probably be or last dinner here, too much good food in Zihua. Pool and service is very good here, we plan to come back next year. Love the lobby bar for a drink or 2 before we go out for dinner.

Ate on Isla Ixtapa twice and loved the food. For dinner we did our first and last night at Il Mare, love the spaghetti alla diavola with huge shrimp, we have ordered other things over the years but this is what they know how to make. 2 nights at Ramon Oleaje wife's pizza restaurant and her sisters Mexican restaurant, love having enchiladas verde with some good pizza. They are on the same road as Lety's but just a little further away from the water. One night at Pastorcito, great tacos and one night at La Gula which did a great job cooking our fish. Broke down one afternoon and went to Rubens for hamburgers, we may break down every year now!

Fished 5 hours one day looking for Dorados and could not find any. Switched over to a rapala and a couple of hoochies so that my wife could at least catch some bonito. Ended up with 3 bonitos and about an 8 kilo Dorado on my rapala. Did a second day from the Playa Linda pier just to have some fun and lunch on the island, didn't leave until 9:00 am. Took our taxi driver and his wife and son out as they never have gone out before. Of course nothing would bite and only caught 1 bonito in about 2 1/2 hours of trolling. The island was nice and we had a good time.

This is the first year that I got my wife on the Ciclopista. We actually walked it to Ixtapa 3 mornings and rented bikes one morning and did a round trip. Great place for a walk but you need to keep moving to avoid the mosquitoes. Wife loved feeding the Tejones fruit on the path, yeah I know don't feed wild animals so go ahead and judge.

This is the 3rd year in a row that I have been using the same taxi driver and it really works well for us. No games are played with us and he is always about 5 minutes early. He has a very nice family and we always take them out a few times. He has very good local knowledge, is very helpful and never in a hurry.

Had a great time as usual and plan on coming back next October, we find the end of October a perfect time to come. We never stay out past 10:00 and never have had even a slight problem in the area. Even the timeshare guy at the hotel just greets us and has given up on selling us anything.
