Zih Perfect Daze

I've now lived in Zihuatanejo for over 30 years, most of my life, so I feel I have a few qualified opinions I hope visitors, residents and newcomers will heed. One of them is DO NOT EAT THE OYSTERS. If you want to eat oysters then the Gulf of Mexico is the place, but not these coastal towns where sewage treatment is spotty at best. I've been poisoned once by oysters. That was all it took for me to learn the lesson. Three days writhing on the floor holding my stomach and moaning. Never again. Never mind the other risks. Zihuatanejo is NOT a place for ordering oysters for numerous reasons.

The scene in the first photo below shows two oyster fishermen working the rocks at the pier by the mouth of Las Salinas Lagoon. One of the absolute worst environments for harvesting oysters for human consumption. These oysters may be sold to a local restaurant. Which one doesn't matter. The point is, this is not a place to eat oysters. We used to have delicious clams here, but we fished those out decades ago. And now because they have never respected the vedas, oyster fishermen are so desperate for oysters they're seeking them in places they know they shouldn't. They don't care. You should. I do.

This is a major health risk, but in a lawless land where health inspectors apparently don't exist, you have to watch out for yourself. Don't eat the oysters!

The first little sparkle of the sun as it peeked over the hill into the bay.

This woman was very grateful to receive glasses that enabled her to see better again.
