The Zih We Love

Just a reminder that the police here are totally useless. About 5:30 or so this morning a drunk driver with music at full volume and a car full of howling drunks crashed into the entrance of a hotel across the street. The drunks all piled out and the men and women began fighting with each other in the street and sidewalk. We called the local police and got a recording. We called 911 and after the 5th try they answered. At that moment a truck returning from delivering pilotes to the pier reconstruction site was being escorted by TWO police trucks full of police. While I was speaking to the person at 911, I described to her how the police did NOT stop or help but instead continued with the empty truck that really did not need their help. I hope the call was being recorded just so that someone could hear our astonishment as the police did nothing to help at the scene of an accident. No other police or authorities of any kind ever showed up. A different drunk got in the driver's seat and drove the vehicle away. This is another reminder why you should not drive after dark and to be extra vigilant on weekends. Drunk drivers are totally tolerated here. No one will do anything to stop them. They will not be arrested or punished for driving drunk. Laws? Forget those.

This is our old friend José Manual Guzmán Rosario bringing up the rear in last week's parade. He is an excellent taxi driver and tour guide and apparently also a charro. See his listing on my Guide to Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa Activities page.

Another grateful recipient of donated school supplies. Thanks to the folks who make this possible!
