Safety in ZIH

My son sent us a link dated Dec 17, 2019 saying it was unsafe (crime and violence) in the state of Guerrero, Ixtapa, ZIH..etc. Is this true? What are you seeing down there right now? We are traveling to ZIH mid Feb-March. Should we be worried?

Now if you were traveling to the Middle East I could see your son's concern, but right now Zihuatanejo is one of the safest places in the world for a U.S. citizen to be. Mexico is on excellent terms with Iran.

Even though I post the U.S. State Department's notices here on my website, frankly I strongly disagree the current one is justified, and due to the manner in which the current administration operates I cannot trust that the State Department's warnings about this region are the result of a serious and objective deliberative process based on standardized criteria. Do we have crime? Of course. Is it worse than where you live? I doubt it. Are foreigners being killed? I believe the 10-year average is less than one death a year here from violence.

What I do trust are the tens of thousands of people who just enjoyed their vacations here over the holiday period. I trust the smiles on the faces of the folks gathered at the zócalo each evening.

Sounds like your son may need a Mexican vacation, too. :vacation:
