The Beat Goes ON in Zih

Last night there were massive celebrations of people enjoying life here in Zihuatanejo instead of contemplating DOOM & GLOOM on their boob tubes. The GuitarFest held its closing concerts last night. There was a truly lovely event in the Plaza del Artista in front of our home.

We enjoyed pizza and beer with our friend Joaquín at his restaurant La Porteña, enjoying the parade of tourists strolling the Paseo del Pescador and returning sunburnt from Las Gatas and other beaches.

Tonight is the parade and closing of the Carnaval with Sonora Dinamita, a favorite traditional Mexican band that plays lots of tropical music the way costeños like it. If you've never seen them they are worth the effort. One of the best groups in Mexico with a long tradition of fine music, very danceable.

This is the first public photo of the ZIHUA letters since they've been moved. They need to be repainted. Hopefully the little spotlights that light them up at night won't be stolen this time.

The shade-roofing for the bench seating area.

The caseta for the oceanographic instruments has already been defiled by local drunks and vagabonds. Hopefully this problem will be nipped in the bud with better vigilance.

A ramp to one of the landings for larger vessels.
