Wait and Zih

Once again events elsewhere reveal how fickle and unreliable the tourist industry is. While we just had the best Carnaval celebration ever and a very successful long weekend on top of a truly lovely GuitarFest, reservations and vacations are being cancelled and postponed, airlines and passenger buses are beginning to lose passengers, and it looks like Semana Santa may not be a vacation time this year as the government discourages folks from gathering and instead recommends staying in place for at least the next two weeks. Anyone who has spent time in any tourism-dependent area has seen this before. Boomtown becomes ghost town. The tourists simply stop coming, and somehow life has to go on. These are times that separate the good from the bad, the selfish from the caring, the folks with no sense from the ones with common sense. It's a time to BUY local, SUPPORT your neighbors, and to HELP strangers.

So far only two reported cases of COVID-19 in Guerrero. A foreign tourist in Acapulco and a woman in Chilpancingo. Containment is still a working strategy in Mexico tough the Secretaría de salud today moved us into the Fase Segunda of the epidemic meaning that now there are expected to be people contracting the virus from one another in Mexico instead of just folks entering the country with it from abroad, as had been the case up until now.

Some beaches have been closed in Yucatán, but so far not here. Our fishermen are still working, thank goodness, so we will at least have fresh fish for the foreseeable future.

There's no place else I'd rather be than right here.
