N95 masks
Non-N95 masks don't protect the person wearing them but they do help prevent the wearer from spreading the virus if they are infected but asymptomatic. Given the lack of testing capacity using masks seems like a pretty benign way to help contain the spread. I would never want to use something needed by a medical professional but I have made several of my own to wear when I do have to go out for groceries. It is theorized that South Korea's encouragement of face mask use by the general public helped contain the spread in that country. I watched a figure skating competition that was held in Seoul in February and everyone in the audience was wearing face masks. I'm wondering now if they were provided as people entered the arena.
