I think the masks sold in Simi & Farma Pronto were surgical masks, which as you suggested may be useless for shielding a person from catching the virus.

Just checked Dr. Oz, per a comment by Paulf in his reply.
He confirms that paper surgical masks are useless as you said......

If it can be determined who the supplier is of the $4-$5 masks, the corresponding "Authorities" there need to intervene.

Just got news that both my daughter Raquel, and her husband Ramiro (now hospitalized) who is a man from Guerrero with Resident status in the US, BOTH have Positive test results for Covid-19, and also have pneumonia.
They reside in Ohio, along with 3 grand kids, one of which was born here in Z.

This has really hit home. :-|
