(what I was doing 48 years ago)

The Aeropuerto Internacional de Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa announced today it will resume operations in June. For those of you who have been stuck here, there's your ride. And for those of you stuck somewhere else less beautiful, less laid back, less amenable here's your chance to come on down.

The Catalina Beach Resort Hotel announced today that it hopes to be opening possibly on June 11. I haven't heard from other hotels, but we are expecting to see businesses and lodgings open back up after the end of this month.

A worrisome bit of news this morning. It was reported that because Lázaron Cárdenas has become a hotspot in Michoacán they've closed their banks, so people are driving from there to Zihuatanejo to do their banking. I don't know if this is true, but it was reported on the local news this morning and this afternoon. While it isn't their fault they have to come here, this is something I hope our mayor and state authorities will discuss with the authorities of Lázaro and Michoacán because it doesn't diminish any problem but rather increases it.

Some local businesses are also refusing to close even though they've been ordered to. It's not like they have any clients, but if people are coming from Lázaro to do their banking then it makes sense they'll also do their shopping. Let's hope their workers don't have to get sick for them to see the folly of their decision. This is supposed to be the worst week coming up. Terrible timing on the part of these merchants.

I take it from your message that the airport is officially closed until June?
No arrivals nor departures?

And do I understand that Lazaro Cardenas is a hotspot of Covid-19?
And if so can you venture a reason(s) why that might be so?
