TIP para un residente temporal

I had the same problem a few years ago. I couldn't find anyone to extend the TIP. I was told to go to the Cancun airport. It took several attempts but we finally found the INM Office. They had no idea what we were talking about. A common affliction at government offices in Mexico.........

That's a little unfair. INM is Immigration. TIP is Customs/Aduana. I doubt US Immigration would provide much information on US Customs procedures.

That said, I understand your frustration. After our car was stolen in Zihua, we also went to the airport to seek "what do we do now" information. Immigration at the airport shunted us to the Customs/Aduana people.....who said we would have to go to a border crossing to straighten things out! A border crossing! We were 2000 km from a border crossing.
A year later, when we were returning home to Canada (in another vehicle), we stopped at Aduana in Mazatlan, thinking a big customs office might have some answers as to how we could cancel the TIP on the car that was stolen....and "totaled" as an insurance write-off. Believe it or not, they suggested I bring the windshield, including the TIP sticker, to a border customs office!
Of course that wasn't too practical, or even possible. Long story short, we finally got an address for the main Aduana office in CDMX, wrote them a letter, included all the documentation.....and 18 months after our vehicle was stolen, I received an official certificate cancelling the original TIP.

You're right I misspoke. It was INM that sent us to Aduana at the Cancun Airport. Unfair? Nonsense.
