Zihuatanejo reached 255 confirmed cases of Covid-19 as of last evening, 36 deaths and 135 people recovered. As a whole Guerrero has been doing well to bring the rate of transmission (how many people are infected by each person with the virus) down to around 1 and below, meaning if we can keep this trend up, though contagions increase, the rate will continue slowing down until the virus can be said to be under control. We're still quite a ways from that point, but the trend is there.

Just a reminder for folks to pay attention when walking around and WATCH OUT FOR THE KILLER COCONUTS. I'll take a wild guess that none of you think to look up when walking along Paseo del Pescador or anyplace else where you walk under coconut palm trees. I've known people killed and injured by falling coconuts, and I've had them land within a few feet of me several times with an impressive and quite deadly WHOMP! Right now several tall palms along the waterfront are full of coconuts. Apparently no one, including Servicios Públicos, thinks to look up at the palm trees. Everyone sees them without really looking at them, and that's how accidents happen.

Lupita and I want to congratulate Carol Romain and her volunteer helpers from her Rice & Beans Program, but especially to thank the generous people making it possible to continue distributing basic food supplies to people who would otherwise be suffering extreme hardship to feed themselves and their family nutritious meals after being mostly without work or income since early March of this year. If you can give a little and help out our friends and neighbors your donation will be spent wisely and go to help people who truly need it.

Barra de Potosí is remaining closed for the time being, but Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa and Troncones are open and hoping to receive responsible visitors. I'm still hearing comments about foreigners not wearing facemasks, and I saw one today. Not sure what the problem is there.

Please make your reservations soon and send your deposits to local lodging owners directly, not through some third party website, to help them pay their workers and be prepared to receive visitors.
