As of today Zihuatanejo has confirmed 288 total cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemia. To date 152 people have recovered and 41 people have died. There are currently 57 confirmed active cases.

In the midst of the canícula, the hottest period of the year for us, jueves pozolero began hot and humid, but sometime during the middle of the night a gazillion bolts of lightning descended upon la Bahía de Zihuatanejo, making us scramble to unplug expensive electrical contraptions around our home just to be on the safe side. Then a light rain started that lasted a couple of hours, and the temperature instantly dropped about 8°C or so. Got so comfy I had to turn down the fan. The lightning quickly moved away, but I still feigned terror so I could snuggle with my sweetie a little longer. ;-)

Pozole delivered to our home from La Jaiba Feliz was especially delicious even if they did skimp a bit on the oregano and red pepper. What a privilege to be able to enjoy their excellent pozole in our home!

More locals appear to be wearing masks even though there are still problem areas, mostly of people drinking in public. I'm seeing more tourists downtown using facemasks, so maybe the message is getting through.

Though it's hard to plan in advance for a lot of folks, especially Statesiders, I hope you all will consider making your reservations for the coming vacation season and please send your deposit ASAP to help local lodging providers to get through these difficult times. Many of them are managing to take care of their employees, but just barely and at great cost, so your deposits can make a major difference so they can better prepare to receive you for your vacation.
