As of this afternoon Zihuatanejo has accumulated 769 total confirmed cases of Covid-19, 61 of which resulted in fatalities. As of yesterday 346 of those had recovered and 298 were still active. Free public testing continues in our municipio. In spite of the apparent leap in numbers, the frequency of reported deaths seems to be slowing, and there is still a high availability of hospital beds and ventilators.

The state and local governments jointly announced that "fase 2" of the "remodelación del Paseo del Pescador" is scheduled to begin soon. I don't know anyone along the waterfront or downtown area who wants to see it remodeled again. It looks just fine the way it is. They could REMOVE some paved parts if they wanted to improve it and restore the old amphitheater, but more bare ground and less cement doesn't put money in politicians' pockets. The result of each successive remodeling I've seen over the past half century is always uglier than before because they have to pour lots of cement including on the beach, and we almost always lose a few big trees. Not good news, IMHO.

The sky was bruised black and blue and threatening rain last night, even made tremendous thunderous noises, but we didn't see a drop of it here downtown.

If you want to find that perfect vacation getaway in our area please see the listings of recommended lodgings on my website and deal directly with them instead of 3rd party agents. Your deposit helps local lodgings to recover from 5 months of being closed.
