Ummm. no. Note Rob's statement above, especially the part where he said not all Republicans are racists, but racists are welcome in the party. Racial divide-and-conquer has been a big part of Republican politics going all the way back to Nixon's Southern Strategy. It's how Republicans have made their bones ever since. They can't use blatant racist rhetoric anymore. So they use code words and dog whistles, winks and nods, to indicate to all the Bubbas and Cooters out there that they'd be welcomed with open arms. Lee Atwater, Bush's campaign manager in 1988, said precisely that before he died.

So, 100% true.
