As of today Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 1,076 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 78 that resulted in fatalities, 18 that are currently active, and 913 that have recovered. The downward trend is holding, but with bars opening back up I expect we'll be back to Semáforo Naranja soon enough. If the government were smart they would only allow bars to open two nights a week and limit their hours to no later than midnight like it used to be here. A more efficient police presence besides drive-bys once every 6 hours would be nice, too.

Slowly but surely tourists are returning and others are making reservations. Even though we had some rain last weekend, there were families out ready to take advantage of when the sun came out. Unfortunately Barra de Potosí lost some of its restaurants from the rain and high waves. Playa Linda lost all the sand on its beach and it was replaced with piles of plastic and wood.

Go easy on the water because we lost some important wells for our municipal water supply that were located IN the riverbed of Río Salitrera. This is not the first time this has happened, and I wonder if CAPAZ will rebuild in the same place or learn their lesson and try more modern methods for extracting groundwater.

I hope my friends who offer different kinds of tours from countryside tours to birdwatching to archaeological tours to surfing to fishing to diving to sailing to SUPing to kayaking are also hearing from upcoming vacationers. They especially have had a rough time losing last year's high season and having to hunker down all these months. Several had just invested in new equipment and never had a chance to make their investment back, so it's been especially rough for them like it has been for so many. Your deposits can go a long way to helping them be ready to take you on an enjoyable adventure during your next visit (or maybe even the one after that).
