Reminds me of visiting with some British friends in Ao Nang, Thailand in Nov. 2005. After the tsunami of Dec. 26, 2004, they put up an early warning system down by the beach. Shortly thereafter, it went off by accident, and 2 local people were killed in the ensuing panic to get to higher ground.

Brings to mind the alarmingly false emergency that missiles from North Korea had been launched toward Hawaii, with a 10 or 15 minute ETA. Wonder how many who were responsible for that outrage lost their jobs.

Best story was of the guy who ran back to get his wallet from his hotel room, so he could buy some take-out from McDonald's before the missiles hit.
