Excess deaths in Mexico through the end of August The good news is that deaths overall in Mexico appear to have gone down in August and is hopefully the beginning of an improving trend. The bad news is that Guerrero is one of several states that aren't included in this analysis because they aren't providing statistics. This leaves many of us in the dark unfortunately. If the rest of Mexico is a guide though, there are probably 2.5 deaths for every one reported.

While things were generally improving in most of Mexico in August and the first half of September, I'm seeing a rise around many parts of the country that appear to coincide with the festivities last month, mostly in big cities, both inland and border. That's why I'm a bit surprised we aren't seeing similar numbers locally where during the weekend of Día de la Independencia the zócalo was so crowded the city allegedly intentionally provoked a blackout then called for an emergency evacuation.
