As of today Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 1,342 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 99 that have resulted in fatalities, and 1,116 that have recovered.

I was extremely disappointed to see how many people were NOT wearing facemasks this morning and this evening while out and about. Not all but mostly tourists. The local government says it's doing more, but besides having police hand out masks at the pier, it appears to be mostly talk.

Besides a little sprinkle now and then, we haven't seen any real rain for weeks. Not usual at all for this time of year. Gee, we were doing so well getting almost daily afternoon and evening showers towards the beginning of September. The vegetation is starting to look a bit withered. And I'm going to have to water my rooftop plants yet again! We usually get enough rain that I almost never have to do so during most of the rainy season, but this year has not been normal.

But the weather remains just PERFECT. A bit of cloud cover kept temps down much of the day, but there was still enough sunshine so as beachgoers weren't disappointed.

The sea hasn't been too rough inside the bay, though we seem to keep losing tourists at Playa El Palmar and at Playa Blanca. I've lost count how many have drowned this year, but it seems like quite a few. Alcohol and poor judgement are certainly a large part of the problem, but a lack of vigilance and signage are also factors. Not much we can do when they decide to swim at night as one victim did this week.

Joggers, tourists taking photos and a beach sweeper at sunrise on our beautiful downtown beach.
