1st of all Rob, sorry about your cat. We have a nearly 15 year old dog that is probably any day now. I hope when it happens I find him laying in his favorite spot. Like your cat he has had a great life and I keep telling myself that. Last year he got to walk Playa LA Ropa, Larga, Saladita, etc. I'm so glad I got him down there. On another note, are people expected to wear masks while walking or sitting on Playa La Ropa? To be clear, I wear a mask whenever I go into a store or a outdoor public gathering, but I haven't worn one while walking down the street. Take care.

People here are expected to wear masks in the streets when around other people, yes. I remove mine when no one is around, but replace it when nearing others. Same on beaches, if you're walking near others you should don your mask. It's all about proximity and RESPECT for others. Sitting in one spot on the beach away from others you don't need a mask.

Some folks are pushing for Zihuatanejo to adopt measures similar to those used in other communities where people without facemasks are fined $500 or have the option to do community service or spend time in jail. In most communities it takes less than 50 people getting fined before almost everyone complies with the mandate to wear facemasks in public. This has worked in so many communities in Oaxaca that they just went from Semáforo Naranja to Amarillo in spite of a resurgence in Puerto Escondido.
