As of today Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 1,489 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (same as the past two days), 111 that have resulted in fatalities, 4 that are currently active, and approximately 1,275 that have recovered. Even though there are localized problem areas in some states, it appears most of the states in Mexico finally have the virus under control. Only Chihuahua and Durango remain under Semáforo Rojo. Let's hope this trend continues. Mexico is playing it safe by not letting up on restrictions. Only Campeche is designated Semáforo Verde.

It's heartbreaking watching the Paseo del Pescador get torn up. Porous adoquín bricks will be replaced with heavy non-porous heat absorbing cement. Plant roots are being cut up to make room for lots of cement including cement "benches". I don't expect all the plants to survive, and it makes me sick to see more beach space paved over. The walkway is already way too wide and used as a highway by motorcycles. It should be narrowed, if anything, and all cement removed. The only mock-up I've seen of the plans for Plaza del Artista is totally unacceptable and will block the view from the street with tons of cement structures like big steps. I will personally take a hammer to it if they go against the wishes of the local families including my wife's who paid for that land and dedicated it to the city with the condition that it be set aside as an open green space with no constructions to impede the view of the ocean from the street. We've already tolerated too much during previous "remodelings". The statue is the only addition we've come to love. You can watch the destruction of the zócalo via one of the webcams on my BEACHES page.

Alfredo Vargas and his jewel of a sportfishing cruiser Esturion II. A great vessel for whalewatching, day trips to Isla Ixtapa, or a sunset cruise along the coast. Oh yeah, he's an excellent fisherman, too!
