As of today Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 1,495 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (4 more than yesterday), 112 that have resulted in fatalities, 5 that are currently active, and approximately 1,277 that have recovered.

Zihuatanejo is currently jam packed with tourists. Mostly families. This evening it seemed most folks were wearing masks but not respecting safe distancing. And of course the construction work restricting accesses to the downtown beach only makes things worse.

One thing about the construction: everywhere that the adoquín pavement has been torn up there is sand underneath, sand that is part of the beach and that helps drain the water when it rains, but it won't drain anything after it's paved over with cement. The cement will make the ambient temperature hotter, drying out the plants faster that the government rarely if ever waters now. This construction was not necessary and cannot possibly be an improvement, IMHO. We didn't ask for it, we were never consulted, and the project was never publicly bidded on. The transparency of the project has been null. It was simply announced and forced down our throats. Esto no es la forma para conducir el negocio del pueblo.

It doesn't look like we'll get any rain from Hurricane Iota. Forecasts show it dying out over the currently cool water off the Pacific Coast of Guatemala. I was hoping we might get some rain from it. We are way below average for our rainy season that officially ends for us on November 30.

If you decide to come back to LIFE with us, I hope you will choose one of my recommended reliable lodgings.

Even the downtown beach was full of families of tourists today.
