Where is the enforcement

We have become friendly with the local Guardia Nacional that pass by our place occasionally. We offer them a place in the shade to rest and some refreshments on occasion. They are nice guys and are very respectful with us. I struggle to understand though what their presences has changed and what they are doing to improve the security situation. Crimes don't seem to be getting solved any more often. I am still regularly irritated by people not following traffic rules or pandemic precautions. Often times it is in plain site of one of the many different "law enforcement" patrols that are traveling around. Zihuatanejo seems just as safe as it always has, no better nor any worse. The only difference seems to be that now there are some young men with guns in white uniforms as opposed to green ones. :2c:

The white uniforms are the Policía Turística, and you're right, they're basically useless though it's not their fault. They only follow orders. The Guardia Nacional wear what is basically known as urban cammies, a blend of grays. They go toe to toe with the chicos malos who were doing a fairly good job of running Zihuatanejo until they came along. Violence and crime in general is nothing like it used to be. They patrol the downtown streets, the beaches, the neighborhoods and the countryside. Personally I'm damn grateful for their presence.
