Testing will make travel safer

Exactly. I think the debate about its efficacy is odd. Foolproof? Of course not. Better than not requiring it? Absolutely. Think through one of people’s main complaints, which is “what if I test positive and can’t get on the plane?” So, apparently those people would rather be able to board the plane unknowing that they are positive and contagious. Their preference is that they be allowed to go home and thereby likely infect others. It’s this kind of thinking in the middle of this global pandemic that helps prevent us from getting it under control.

I doubt that anyone actually thinks like that. I believe what's more concerning are the false positives. And a friend of mine died, a person who used to post here frequently, after receiving a negative test. So then there's that.

The new requirements for quarantining after traveling abroad should help get us all to the right place. That has been the missing tool for international travelers. The vacuna is being applied as quickly as possible, and once it starts reaching the general population we should see less alarming stats.
