Eye glasses

I do not know about the Lions Club in Ixtapa but check this board for prior posts on bringing used eye glasses thru customs at the Zihua airport.
About 6 years ago I brought glasses from my Lions Club in Alaska to give to the Red Cross here. I had a very difficult time getting them thru customs even with a letter in spanish explaining my intentions. The glasses were are labeled and refurbished so maybe customs assumed I brought them for resale.
After a tense 5 minute standoff and me telling customs to throw the glasses in the trash if they did not care about helping their fellow citizens, I was allowed to leave with the glasses.
It is possible that the procedure to bring in glasses is more refined now.
