As of today, since April 18, 2020 Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 1,992 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (16 more than yesterday), 157 that have resulted in fatalities, 55 that are currently active, and approximately 1,652 that have recovered. La Unión currently registers 1 active case while Petatlán registers 8.

For those of you who love Zihuatanejo's natural beauty, the mayor announced that construction would begin mid-year on the 1200 room Acapulco-style skyscraper hotel at Playa Manzanillo. It will devastate the coral, privatize the beach and of course they won't leave the manzanillo trees because, while lovely, they are poisonous. SEMARNAT is possibly the only government entity that may be able to stop the loss of one of Zihuatanejo's prize jewels, but they need to hear from the public including our residents and visitors who definitely have a stake in this.

We've been enjoying refreshing evening breezes from the sierra, and the forecast calls for even cooler temps in the next few days, so for those of us here we may have to throw an extra sheet on the bed and turn the fan down a notch at night. For those of you way up north, enjoy your snow. :-D

This was worth running out to the beach for this morning!
