The latest invasion of tiny winged demons has been pretty spectacular. Those things are completely undeterred by any kind of screen or repellant. Sunup reveals thousands of insect corpses everywhere...must've been a mass insecticide.

Last night we turned off as many lights as we could, didn't watch TV much after dark, but there are still clumps of these creatures like little bee hives in the ceiling corners. They're even attracted to the little light on the phone charger.

Frogs, cuijas, and bats having a feast though.

All this has made me wonder...where did bugs hang out before humans made light?

Flying after the moon and the stars... ;-)

Sounds like you're talking about las hormigas voladoras. The cuijas love'em. The best remedy for massive ant movements in these parts is to let them move on through. The flyers are just mating. Wait until two large ant colonies decide your house is their war zone. It's quite an impressive sight. I've had to sweep up kilos of them after a massive battle between large red and large black ants.

Yeah, but they would still burn up on reentry. Doesn't seem like a viable evolutionary path. Yet here they are, flying into flames and hot light bulbs.

There are more ants living under my house than there are atoms in the Universe. Neil deGrasse Tyson disagrees with me of course, but I have invited him to come here to make direct observations.
