My parents were great fans of road trips into Mexico, with extended durations.

They also loved Maui, and lived on a Southern California beach most of their lives. They took us along for two weeks on Maui many years go. It was interesting, educational, and only added to our desire to spend more time/live in a very tropical setting.

Our main issue with Maui was the water temp. When we went diving we absolutely had to wear a wetsuit. We can work with that, but after having lived in an area where we didn't have to wear one ever, it was a NO.

We also didn't like the fact that it was an island that's only real income was through tourism. Again, after living on South Caicos, we got that.

Our closest friends relocated from our So Cal beach to Kauai over 30 years ago. We were very regular visitors, and continue to be. We couldn't live long term on an island nor could we afford it. The 100% tourism economy is another issue for us.

Our final resting place is here. We purchased our dream property, have our dream house and location, and love it.

We do encourage anyone/everyone who wants to break out of the "normal" thing to try Mexico, especially here,
