Zihuatanejo is reporting 62 confirmed currently active cases of Covid-19. About half of what was being reported a week ago. So apparently a downward trend continues here as in the rest of Mexico. Petatlán is reporting 6 currently active cases and La Unión 10. Unfortunately I've seen no mention of when vaccinations will resume locally.

Tomorrow is El Grito de la Independencia, and we expect lovely sunny weather for the next few days after several mostly cloudy and rainy days. Perfect for fireworks whose explosions lots of simply don't care for, especially pet owners. Haven't seen any notifications regarding the parade on Thursday morning, but I suspect it will be reduced in size if it's held at all.

The mar de fondo had the seas so high there was no beach at any of our beaches. This also means that sea turtles can't lay their eggs, and those that try usually have their nests ruined and eggs washed away by the waves. On the downtown beach the waves washed up over the walkway. Apart from the mar de fondo, the sea was actually fairly calm in spite of the passing storm. If there had been a tropical storm or hurricane and the waves just a wee tad higher then downtown streets would've been flooded like already happens in Acapulco's main boulevard Costera Miguel Alemán thanks to poor planning and overdevelopment.

Oops! That's not right. Today was worse than yesterday. Lots of cement, little beach. Miss the beautiful tall palms.
