Otro Día RiquíZIHmo en Un Paraíso Costeño

There's a new turtle sheriff here in PBV. Apparently the mayor has kicked in some funding and the new guy, Lencho, patrols the beach before sunup every morning on a new moto, and takes the eggs to our little local hatchery. The hatchery--which had been neglected for a while--is also being upgraded. A few days ago, there was a guy with a backhoe clearing the overgrowth, trash and debris that had accumulated around it. Yeah, so much trash we needed a backhoe.

A few days ago Lencho came to our gate with a big tub of squirming energetic little babies and asked if we would like to release them. So me and the wife got our own private turtle release! Some kids happened by and my wife was telling them all about turtle reproduction as I ushered about a hundred of the little guys into the surf.

So at least for now the beach between Pantla and la Playa Buenavista is a (relatively) safe space for turtles.

It's just beginning to get light, there are three maybe four sets of tracks, fresh from last night, I can see from my house.
